Crescent Point Bantam AA Wings have a good road swing

The Crescent Point Bantam AA Wings kicked off 2014 with a road trip to Melville and Yorkton January 4 and 5. Melville scored within the first five minutes of the game, and kept the lead for eight minutes.

Melville scored within the first five minutes of the game, and kept the lead for eight minutes. Preston Kotylak scored at 7:33 of the first period, Matthew Kesslering assisted that goal, which was Weyburn's lone goal of the first period. Melville managed to sneak one past goaltender Dalton Dosch putting Melville ahead going into the second period. The Crescent Point Wings held their own in the second period, with the only goal scored by Trysten DeRoose, assisted by Dryden Hoffart and Ben Hiltz. The third period of the game the boys came out sticks a blazing!

The wings picked up five goals in the third period. Matthew Kesslering picked up a hat trick, with assists going to Rhett Nikolejsin, and Wyatt Arndt. Kane Altwasser scored unassisted. Ben Hiltz scored shorthanded with Trysten DeRoose picking up the assist. Dalton Dosch faced 25 shots and the Wings beat Melville 7 to 3.

The next night the Crescent Point Wings headed to Farrell Arena in Yorkton to take on the UCT Terriers. The first period of play was fast paced back and forth, but at 2:06 left in first period Yorkton scored. Heading into the second period Yorkton put another puck past goaltender Josh Dubiel. Weyburn answered with a goal from Kane Altwasser, assisted by Ben Hiltz and Trysten DeRoose.

Yorkton scored, giving them a 3 to 1 lead. Right off the face off Trysten DeRoose headed to the net and got one in on Yorkton unassisted.

Weyburn managed to shut out any more goals against them. A lone goal to tie up the game in the third period was made by Matthew Kesslering with assist to Wyatt Arndt. Josh Dubiel faced 58 shots that game.

On January 10 the CP Wings headed to North Battleford for their first game of their northern road trip. The Battleford Barons scored first early in the period, but the Wings answered back with three quick goals from Kade Eger (unassisted) then Ben Hiltz (unassisted) and Ty Stadnick assist from Kade Eger. The Barons snuck one in and Trysten DeRoose scored their fourth goal assisted by Wyatt Arndt and Ben Hiltz. The Wings second period was slow for goals, only one scored by Trysten DeRoose assisted by Kane Altwasser and Dryden Hoffart. In the third period Weyburn scored two goals. Brayden Duke and Rhett Nikolesjin with Matthew Kesslering and Wyatt Arndt picking up those assist. The Barons picked up three goals in the third tying the game at seven. Dalton Dosch had a busy game with 44 shots on net.

The Wings hit the highway to Kerrobert Arena to take on the West Central Wheat Kings. After ending in a tie the night before they were pumped and ready to take on the Wheat Kings. The CP Wings pulled off a 10- 1 victory. The two goals of the first period were by Brayden Duke with assists to Matthew Kesslering and Rhett Nikolejsin. Trysten DeRoose scored assisted by Kane Altwasser and Ben Hiltz.

The second period saw Weyburn pick up two more goals by Dryden Hoffart assisted by Matthew Kesslering and Brayden Duke and the Wheat Kings scored their lone goal with a scrum in front of the net. Weyburn scored two minutes later. Rhett Nikolejsin found the back of the net assisted by Matthew Kesslering and Kade Eger.

The Wings third period of play was action packed with six unanswered goals. Trysten DeRoose scored a shorthanded goal assisted by Ben Hiltz. Matthew Kesslering assisted by Wyatt Arndt scored right after the Wheat Kings were back on full strength. Brayden Duke assisted by Rhett Nikolesjin and Matthew Kesslering. Matthew Kesslering scored unassisted. Ben Hiltz with the assist to Kane Altwasser and then final goal was a PP goal from Brayden Barsness (Kade Eger and Ty Standnick) Josh Dubiel picks up the win in net for this game.

On Sunday the boys headed to the arena to take on the 6th place team of north division standing, the Saskatoon Stallions. They fell short 7-5. The Wings opened up with the first two goals by Trysten DeRoose. (Rhett Nikolejsin and Dryden Hoffart and Wyatt Arndt) Saskatoon scored with less then two minutes left in first period on a power play. The Stallions picked up two quick goals in under a minute which put the Wings down by one. Matthew Kesslering assisted by Wyatt Arndt answered back with a sweet goal to tie it up. On a power play, defensemen Wyatt Arndt assisted by Trysten DeRoose found the back of the net tying the game. The Wings' tie was short lived however as the Stallions scored on their power play with under two minutes on the clock. The third period started off with a nice goal from Matthew Kesslering assisted by Kyler Douglas and Preston Kotylak but the Stallions managed to find the net a few more times and take the win. Kade Eger ended up leaving game to find he has a broken collar bone.
