Four women honoured at Quota Women of the Year Awards

"Weyburn beckons its citizens to bend to the soil, then stand tall and focus on the sky's horizon." These are the opening words of guest speaker, Dr. Joyce Bellous at the Quota International of Weyburn Woman of the Year Awards on April 7.

Four women were honoured at the Quota International of Weyburn Women of the Year Awards on April 7. Isabelle Butters Community Service Award winner Margaret Lukey.

These are the opening words of guest speaker, Dr. Joyce Bellous at the Quota International of Weyburn Woman of the Year Awards on April 7.

"Weyburn has also affirmed my belief in the importance of people," she said.

Four Weyburn women were honoured at the luncheon for their outstanding contributions to the community of Weyburn whether it was through work, building their own business, community service.

The SaskPower Workplace excellence award is handed out to a woman who has excelled in the workplace by displaying a superior effort and true desire to significantly improve her profession, work environment and workplace efficiency.

Stella Swertz was presented this award.

"I feel privileged to work with the amazing people in our community. This is for everyone I have ever worked with," said Swertz.

Presented to a woman for exceptional leadership or innovation in starting, operating or owning a business, the Access Communications Exceptional Entrepreneur Award was presented to Lynette Richards.

"I was pretty excited," she said. "I really like the whole start-up of the companies and getting everything going, I find that the most exciting."

The Quota International of Weyburn M. Isabelle Butters Community Service Award recognizes a woman who, as a volunteer, has demonstrated a commitment to enrich her community, to alleviate social inequities, to strengthen volunteer participation, to educate or to provide leadership in the community.

This award was presented to Margaret Lukey.

"Volunteering is a way of life for me and being awarded for it is very humbling," said Lukey.

April Hoffman was presented the Investors Group Young Woman of Distinction Award which is presented to a young woman between the ages of 18 and 30 who has made a significant contribution to the life of her community and who demonstrates a capacity for leadership.

Hoffman was unable to attend the luncheon, so the award was accepted on her behalf by The Family Place Executive Director Dawn Gutzke.
