The public reception for the James Weir Peoples' Choice exhibition is welcoming back the first exhibition winner, Yvette Moore.
Moore won the first Peoples' Choice Award with her painting "Playtime Melody" 30 years ago and will be the guest of honour at the exhibition reception Friday, January 31 at 7 p.m. at the Allie Griffin Gallery.
Moore 's first illustrated book, A Prairie Alphabet gained success being awarded the prestigious Mr. Christie's Book Award in 1992 for Best Illustration for Children's Literature in Canada. A Prairie Alphabet continues to be a bestseller around the world. Following the success of A Prairie Alphabet, Moore illustrated two other widely acclaimed books with author Jo Bannatyne-Cugnet: A Prairie Year and Heartland-A Prairie Sampler.
There will be a draw at the reception for an Yvette Moore framed print.
"We are thrilled that she has accepted our request to be the guest of honour at this 30 year anniversary celebration. Yvette's success as an artist and business woman is an inspiration to our local artists," said Rickee-Lee Webster, of Simple with a Twist.
Local artists work will be on display for the public to view and vote for the month of January. Votes will be tallied Thursday, January 30.
The Weyburn Arts Council is also celebrating 50 years as an Arts Council. Weyburn was the first Arts Council in Saskatchewan.
Hats and Canes are the theme for the reception, so grab your favorite fancyor quirky hat and a cane and take in the reception.
The Allie Griffin Gallery is located on the lower level of the Weyburn Public Library, 45 Bison Avenue.
