The Weyburn Concert Series board is excited for a new season, and will showcase ABBAmania and the Bee Gees ‘Night Fever’ to start the year on Tuesday, September 29 at the Cugnet Centre, starting at 7:30 p.m.
ABBAmania is the world’s number one production of ABBA. The show consists of studio musicians that recreate ABBA live in concert.
They are the only ABBA production to perform twice for the cast of “Mama Mia”. Hear the hits from “Waterloo, S.O.S to Dancing Queen”.
Also on the same show is Night Fever as the Bee Gees. With all the high harmonies and stage presence of the Bee Gees, they will be performing songs from “Jive Talking, Too Love Somebody, Stayin’ Alive to You Should Be Dancing” plus many more.
ABBAmania and Night Fever perform over 200 concerts year and they will take residents back in time when ABBA and The Bee Gees ruled the pop music world. It will be two great shows on one stage.
Lynn Kot, president of the Weyburn Concert Series, said that it was exciting to host a big concert such as ABBAmania and the Bee Gees as their opener.
“We have found that tribute concerts have been really popular.”
Looking forward to the rest of the season, there are many great groups that will be hosted at the Cugnet Centre by the Weyburn Concert Series.
One of the biggest ones will be when Canada’s ballet Jörgen presents “Sleeping Beauty” in March.
“One of our mandates is to educate and to entertain, so we are really excited about hosting the ballet.”
Another goal for the Weyburn Concert Series is to host Canadian performers, and they work hard to bring in a few Saskatchewan performers during their season. Kot noted that for the upcoming year, they only have one out-of-country group scheduled: the Celtic Tenors.
“We have found that you get a good response from hosting a great series of concerts … and we are very excited about this year,” said Kot.
Their opening night on Tuesday, September 29 will also be special since the Weyburn Concert Series will recognize all their sponsors from the season.
Lynn is also excited for the new, enthusiastic board that is planning many events for upcoming seasons. “Since we are now able to host concerts in the Cugnet Centre, we have really stepped up what we have been doing.”
She noted that they have seen an increase in season ticket sales because of the quality of concerts that are brought to Weyburn.
There is still time to purchase tickets to ABBAmania and the Bee Gees concert. Tickets are available at Superior Office Products, or can be purchased at the door.
In addition, there is still time to purchase season tickets. In fact, any one who wants a season ticket after attending ABBAmania can trade in their ticket for a season pass.
