Fatal Collision on Highway 39

One person died following a collision on Highway 39 6 kilometres north of Yellow Grass the evening of August 5. Milestone RCMP responded to the accident, which occurred around 6 p.m.

Milestone RCMP responded to a fatal head-on collision involving a passenger vehicle and a semi trailer unit on August 5 on Highway 39 north of Yellow Grass which left one man dead.

One person died following a collision on Highway 39 6 kilometres north of Yellow Grass the evening of August 5.

Milestone RCMP responded to the accident, which occurred around 6 p.m. A northbound Mazda and a southbound semi were involved in a head-on collision.

The driver of the Mazda, a 20-year-old man from Lang, was treated at the scene by both EMS and STARS, but was declared deceased a short time after the accident. The 24-year-old semi driver from South Carolina was not injured in the accident.

Traffic was diverted at the scene for several hours to allow first responders and an RCMP traffic re-constructionist, to complete their work.

Canadian Pacific Railway police were also notified, as the semi's trailer ended up alongside the railroad tracks, and trains were unable to move in either direction until the scene was cleared.

Assisting at the scene were RCMP Capital Traffic Services, CP Police, RCMP Milestone, Yellow Grass Fire Dept, Provincial Coroner, Weyburn EMS, STARS as well as RCMP victim services.

Next of kin has been notified and the name of the deceased will not be released.
