Nescafe/ Tassimo disks can now be recycled

Blue Environmental has added yet another way to help out the environment and keep more garbage out of the landfill.

Blue Environmental has added yet another way to help out the environment and keep more garbage out of the landfill. They have signed a deal with a plastics recycling company called Terracyle, which will see Blue Earth Environmental accept particular types of coffee disks for recycling, namely Nescafe and Tassimo.

In 2014, 9.8 billion K-Cups/disks were sold worldwide and if lined up end-to-end, those discarded discs would contain enough plastic to circle the globe more than 10 times. Recycling Nescafe and Tassimo coffee disks, which are only two of several brands, will be a step in the right direction.

"Whenever they ask us to collect those items, we send them in and then that money can be donated to a non-profit organization in our community,"said Rose McInnes, who is the owner/operator of Blue Earth Environmental in Weyburn.

The money that is donated comes from credits that Terracycle donates for each coffee disk received. The money in turn is then donated to the chosen organizations which include The Family Place, Weyburn Work-Kin Shop, the Weyburn Humane Society and Weyburn Mental Health.

Currently the disks can be recycled by either signing up for the Blue Bin recycling service or by delivering them directly to Blue Earth Environmental. Blue Earth is located at 35 Third Street and is open between 10:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. To learn more about all the items that Blue Earth Environmental recycles through its partnership with Terracycle, please visit their website at http://www.blueearthenviro.ca/ or call (306) 891-8370.
