Weyburn will be competing in the Friends category of Communities in Bloom once again.
During Monday’s City Council meeting, Coun. Laura Morrissette and Coun. Nancy Styles announced that the Communities in Bloom judges will be in Weyburn on Wednesday, July 27.
“The Friends evaluation means that we are not competing with other cities of a similar size, but we do want the judges to evaluate us,” said Coun. Styles.
“The Community in Blooms judges will come into the city, and evaluate just like we were competing. By having that evaluation, the city can look at their comments and make improvements.”
This is the second year that the City of Weyburn has entered into the Evaluated Friend category.
“I think it is a great opportunity to rebuild the pride in our community,” said Coun. Morrissette.
“We are just finding that there are not that many volunteers who want to come out and give of their time, but it only takes a few minutes for residents to check their own yards, or pick up garbage in the back alley.”
While in Weyburn, the judges will be toured of a variety of places. “We will take them to the Community Gardens, Heritage Village, River Park and Jubilee Park,” said Coun. Styles. She noted that there have been a number of recent additions to River Park that should impress the judges.
“We will also take the judges to see the Pioneer Women and the Tommy Douglas statue, and the extension we made to the Boardwalk, heading to the Soo Line Museum,” said Coun. Styles.
It was also noted that the judges were very impressed with the Water Treatment Plant during their tour last year.
