Whatever happened to the days when jeans were called jeans and thongs were sandals that you wore on your feet?

I was in a conversation last week with someone a little younger than me (okay much younger - in her twenties) who was talking fashion with me. She kept referring to something called 'jeggings'. After several referrals to this weird item (I thought maybe she had a lisp) I was going to correct her but decided to play the dumb blonde card and ask just what 'jeggings' were. She proceeded to tell me that the item of clothing we were discussing looked like jeans but fit like leggings. What? Where the heck have I been for this invention?

I understand that I'm not really in the loop in the fashion world anymore but what the heck happened? Thongs are now underwear and what we called thongs are called flip flops. Bunny hugs are something you affectionately give to rabbits, not something that is long-sleeved and you wear over your shirt that has a hood and keeps you warm. Apparently those articles of clothing are now called hoodies.

About five years ago (or so), John and I were heading down south for vacation, when we encountered some young men wearing what I called at the time 'man capris'. They were shorts that went down to their knees. We thought it was hilarious and definitely gave them the 'who dressed you' look. Well, who would have guessed that these youngsters were the trendsetters for the rest of us? Now when you look around you, it's just the norm for men to wear these long shorts. Can you imagine if we saw guys in short shorts nowadays? Oh my, would that get a stare. Men's shorts have gotten longer and girls' shorts have gotten shorter.

Who would have thought that what we wore around our neck to keep warm in the winter would turn into a multi-million dollar trend that women AND MEN now wear all year long? Yes, scarves. They are not just for the snooty ladies to wear with their suits anymore. We wear scarves as an accessory with everything from jeans to skirts to yoga pants. It's just the norm now.

Then there are 'wife beaters'. Most of us know the term as being a white 'tank top' for men. They now wear these in public considering them attire for their chest. All I can say to this one is, there is a reason that they call them 'undershirts'. I rest my case.

As a member of the baby boomer generation, I remember everything we wore in our day has gone out-of-style and in-style so many times that I can't keep up. We should have just kept our clothes from our younger years. Can you imagine how much money we could have saved? Oh wait.....we might have had a slight height and size difference.

Pet peeve of the week: When I call a company at 9:15 a.m. only to get an answering machine that states their store hours are 9:00 a.m. to noon and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. No leave a message and they will get back to you. No nothing. Just these are hours and apparently we slept in and don't really care if you want to talk to us. I would rather hear that they are not at their desk or busy with a customer than outright not being there when they are clearly suppose to be. Also would it be so hard to have an option to leave a message so at least it appears that you care that someone wants to do business with you. Grrrrrrr!

That's just me......let me know what you think!
