WJH hold information day on drug and alcohol awareness

Weyburn Junior High School Community Council, along with the staff of the junior high will be hosting a Drug and Alcohol Awareness Day on April 10 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Weyburn Junior High School Community Council, along with the staff of the junior high will be hosting a Drug and Alcohol Awareness Day on April 10 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The purpose of the day will be to provide information to people in the community about the increasing drug and alcohol issues in Weyburn.

Shayne Stoll will be speaking to the junior high students about the dangers of drugs, alcohol and drinking and driving.

In the afternoon, the WJH Grade 9 students will showcase the projects and displays that they created for the health unit about drugs and alcohol. The projects will be set up in the gym and all WJH students will have a chance to view the displays.

In the evening, there will be an Open House and Information night about drugs and alcohol abuse.

This evening is open to anyone in the community who is would like to learn more about drug and alcohol issues in Weyburn.

From 6:30 p.. to 9 p.m. the Grade 9 health displays will be set up in the gym for viewing and from 7:20 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. there will be three 20 minute sessions for the community to attend.

Melissa Wallace is a member of the legal community. Her 20 minute session will provide information about parental liability concerning underage drinking and drug use.

The Weyburn City Police will hold a 20 minute session to provide information about drug and alcohol issues found in Weyburn.

The Weyburn Junior High School Counsellor Team will also have a 20 minute session which is a chance for the community to meet the counsellors and teachers who support students who are dealing with substance abuse issues.
